Large-Scale “Big Construction” Launched at the EU Border

In 2026, Ukraine plans to implement a large-scale program to modernize border infrastructure. This includes the construction of a new border crossing point on the border with Romania, as well as the reconstruction of existing checkpoints along the borders with three countries.

A new checkpoint in Zakarpattia region, on the border with Romania, will be located on the “Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmației” section. Its construction is already underway.

The first phase of construction предусматриває development of road infrastructure and reinforcement of the riverbank, as well as the construction of access roads and lighting. It also includes the arrangement of 7 traffic lanes, inspection zones, and the necessary operational infrastructure.

At the same time, Ukraine will reconstruct key border crossing points:

1. “Porubne – Siret” (border with Romania)
   The project includes additional lanes for inbound freight traffic, installation of weighing equipment for customs control, and the creation of parking areas for heavy vehicles.
2. “Luzhanka – Beregsurány” (border with Hungary)
   The reconstruction предусматриває expansion of infrastructure, including construction of new administrative buildings, weighing complexes, inspection areas, vehicle holding zones, and pedestrian infrastructure.
3. “Uzhhorod – Vyšné Nemecké” (border with Slovakia)
   The project includes new lanes for passenger cars and buses, construction of customs and border control pavilions, canopies, and in-depth inspection areas.

In 2026, Ukraine also plans to complete infrastructure works at the “Bronnytsia – Unguri” checkpoint (border with Moldova), as well as carry out major repairs at the following checkpoints:

• – “Chop (Tysa) – Záhony” (border with Hungary)
• – “Malyi Bereznyi – Ubľa” (border with Slovakia)
• – “Solotvyno – Sighetu Marmației” (border with Romania)
