Who really owns Ukrainian subsoil
R&D analysts of the Ukrainian IT company YouControl (an online service for checking companies) analyzed the List of Special Permits for Subsoil Use of the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine.
The analysis of the structure of holders of special permits for subsoil use in Ukraine showed a significant concentration of resources in the hands of both state-owned and private companies, in particular, those that are part of large corporate groups.
In total, 2268 companies and 78 individuals hold 3482 special permits for subsoil use. State-owned enterprises, such as JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya and PJSC Ukrnafta, have the largest number of permits – 213 and 89 respectively. The private sector is represented by such large companies as SCM (39 permits), Smart Holding (17), Zakhidnadraservis (13), Istvan (12), and ATB (11).
At the same time, the ownership structure of 351 companies shows participation of foreign capital from 51 countries, with Cyprus (137), the Netherlands (34), Switzerland (24), the United Kingdom (23), and Germany (21) leading the way.
