On June 4, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, following multiple rounds of voting (adoption in the first reading, return for revision, and referral for repeated first reading), rejected and removed from consideration the Draft Law of Ukraine “On the Management of Extractive Waste” (Reg. No. 12180 dated November 5, 2024), submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The Association reminds that the purpose of the draft law was to establish the legal, economic, and organizational framework for the management of extractive waste, aimed at preventing or reducing adverse effects on the natural environment, as well as on human health and safety, arising from extractive waste management, and to prevent accidents at extractive waste facilities.

In December 2024, the Association submitted its comments on the draft law to the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Nature Management (see the “News” section for the publication dated December 20, 2024).
